Hello and welcome to YR!

We are so thrilled that you are starting your journey at Old Hall.

Whether your child is new to school or if you have siblings it is wonderful to welcome you to the Old Hall family.

Autumn term in YR is a very busy affair with lots of exciting events coming up and lots of new learning for the children.

As they embark on their first half term of school life we spend a lot of time focusing on PSED, where the children form friendships and settle into the school routine and learn the expectations. They will start having formal PE lessons, join in whole school assemblies and start their Phonics journey through Read Write Inc, and they will be bringing home their first school reading book.

The children will also be taking part in wake up shake up sessions, large gross motor outdoor learning and formal curriculum lessons. Their school days will be packed full of fun and laughter but they will also have a high demand on their concentration and listening skills, so be prepared for some very tired children by the time it gets to Friday each week.

Every Friday I will send home a newsletter so that you are up to date on what we have been doing in school and it will have key diary dates so that you can note these down in advance. It will let you know who our stars of the day and week are and will also give you information about our learning journey so far. I will also put a copy of the newsletter on our class page each week just incase you misplace your paper copy.

Our teaching theme is 'All about me!' because young children love to talk about themselves and what is important to them.

This term we will be having PE on Tuesday and Friday mornings. The children will be focusing on how to change ourselves and take care of our belonging, spatial awareness and following instructions for the first half term.
