Old Hall Primary School

Curriculum

Curriculum Intent

Our Old Hall curriculum meets the statutory expectations of the National Curriculum. Our personalisation of the curriculum reflects our school's context and ensures our children understand equality, inclusivity and opportunity as we strive to embody our school motto.

Aspire, Inspire, Motivate - AIM High!

Equality - ensuring every member of our Old Hall family has equal opportunity to succeed. It ensures individuals are not treated differently or discriminated against because of his or her characteristics.

Inclusivity - we strive to remove barriers to success through our inclusive practices and the skill of our staff in supporting children's diverse needs and helping every child to achieve their goals.

Opportunity - we build our children's cultural capital through maximising experiences, finding ways to learn and grow beyond the classroom and teaching and learning routines where possible and relevant, striving to make the most of our environment.

Our approach to education is holistic; we are concerned for the whole child – mind, body and spirit. We offer an exciting and challenging curriculum for all. We set high standards and expect each child to give their best in all that they do. English is our key curriculum driver, with high-quality core texts at the very heart. The English curriculum has been carefully planned to complement and further enhance the History, Geography and Science curriculum, with explicit opportunities for cross-curricular reading and writing experiences planned to further enhance the learning journey, supporting children to know more and remember more.

These are the 4 main themes that span our curriculum:

  • Our place in our world
  • Inquisitive Investigators
  • Achieving Aspirations
  • Creative Collaborators

Curriculum Model

Curriculum Implementation

Our curriculum is taught through discreet subjects that are sequentially planned in order to build on key knowledge, skills and understanding in order to support our children to know and remember more.

Explicit links between our English and our Science, History and Geography curriculum have been carefully planned and can be further explored following the links below.

Our curriculum is also designed to reflect our local context, making our learning even more meaningful and relevant to the children of Old Hall. Some examples of how this has been achieved can be seen below.
