Welcome to the Year 1 Class Page

Hi again!

I hope you and your families are safe and well and have been enjoying the sun we have has recently. I have been very busy during lockdown. I have been into school quite a few times with the key worker children, learning to bake lots of yummy cakes and going on lots of walks in the sunshine. I can't wait to hear what you've all been up to. Hopefully we will be back together soon!

I have updated the activities below for our last topic together - the seaside. There are topic enrichment activities which you can complete, I would love to see pictures of you completing them! Don't forget to check the Home Learning page for your Numeracy and Literacy activities. There are lots of websites you can play on such as phonics play and read the e -books available on Oxford Owls.

I am missing you all very much and hope we can all be back in school soon so we can end the year together just as we started it.

Keep safe and smiling.

 Love Miss Rea x

Our Year 1 Learning

06 Jan 2020

Here is the curriculum map for Year 1, it contains all the exciting, interesting things we will be learning this year. During the course of the year, in line with the children's interests topics may move slightly. If topics do change this will be made aware in the class newsletter.

Thanks,

Our Topic

06 Jan 2020

In our topic this term, we would have been looking at the seaside. We would have looked at where they are and what they used to be like. We would have also looked at natural and man-made objects that are at the seaside. It will be lovely to share all the things that  you are able to do, when we return to school...hopefully soon!

Thank you for all your support.

Summer 2 Spellings

Common Exception Words

As well as the Year 1 spelling programme of study, the children also need to be able to read and spell in their independent writing these frequently used words that are exceptions to the usual spelling rules.

Please follow the link to the list published by Twinkl.

Liverpool World Museum

For our school trip we have been to Liverpool World Museum. We had an astronaut George experience in the planetarium, some of the class pretended to be stars and others had blow up planets. We then had a look round the museum, in the bug house and at the dinosaur exhibit. Finally we had a under the sea activity and we touched a starfish and a crab. We had a fantastic day!

Dinosaur Topic

We have really enjoyed our topic dinosaurs. We have been palaeontologists, created our own dinosaur habitats, created our own fossils using salt dough, created our own dinosaur eggs, acted out the story of Harry and the bucketful of dinosaurs and have created our own version of this. Take a look at some of the pictures below to see how much we have enjoyed thins topic.

Our Masks

In art we created our own masks using lots of different materials, we could either create a superhero or a villain. We then wrote about our masks including giving them a name and super powers.

Our Self-portraits

In art we have been using wax crayons to create our self-portraits. We had to draw and colour the other half of our faces but remembering to focus on where our different features are on our faces are.

Our Teddies

We have been reading the story Knuffle Bunny in English this week and on Friday we brought in our won teddies to describe. Here is some of our writing along with a picture of our teddy.

Our Descriptions

In English we have been recognising and using adjectives. We have created descriptions of ourselves for our topic Marvellous Me, remembering to use adjectives.

Shape Hunt

In Maths we have been recognising 2D shapes. One morning we went on a shape hunt inside and outside of school. We found lots of 2D shapes.
